The Friends' successfully completed their winter tree planting campaign on 14 March, with help from the 40th Blackheath Scouts.
Six species of trees indigenous to the UK were added to the south field of Avery Hill: oak, hornbeam, birch, hawthorn, field maple and pine. These add to the 600 trees already planted in the emerging woodland area. The winter tree planting programme also saw additional and replacement trees planted alongside Avery Hill Road and the new arboretum area. These improvements were made possible thanks to a grant from the Mayor of London's tree planting scheme and fundraising by the Friends group.
